Breeder Code of Ethics

At ICCO Kennels, breeding is not a transaction — it is a responsibility.

Our Code of Ethics reflects the standards we hold ourselves to in the preservation, development, and placement of the Cane Corso. Every decision we make is guided by the long-term health of the breed and the well-being of each dog we produce.

1. Breed Preservation Over Volume

We do not breed for quantity.

Each pairing is carefully evaluated for:

  • Structural correctness

  • Temperament stability

  • Health history

  • Pedigree consistency

  • Complementary traits between sire and dam

We breed only when we believe the pairing contributes positively to the future of the Cane Corso.

2. Temperament First

A true guardian breed must be stable, clear-headed, and balanced.

We prioritize:

  • Confident but controllable disposition

  • Strong nerves

  • Predictable guardian instinct

  • Trainability and intelligence

We do not promote instability, exaggerated aggression, or fear-based behavior.

3. Health & Veterinary Standards

All breeding dogs receive appropriate veterinary care and routine health monitoring.

We:

  • Maintain proper vaccination and preventative protocols

  • Monitor breeding animals for hereditary concerns

  • Provide health records at time of placement

  • Stand behind our dogs with a written agreement

Our goal is longevity and structural soundness.

4. Responsible Placement Practices

ICCO Kennels does not sell puppies on impulse.

Every placement requires:

  • A completed application

  • Direct communication

  • Approval based on lifestyle compatibility

We reserve the right to decline placement if we believe the home is not suitable.

The integrity of the breed comes before the sale.

5. Lifetime Responsibility

Our responsibility does not end at pickup.

We:

  • Provide guidance for transition and early training

  • Remain available for owner support

  • Require that any dog produced by ICCO Kennels be returned to us if rehoming becomes necessary

No ICCO dog should ever enter a shelter or rescue system.

6. Compliance & Legal Standards

ICCO Kennels operates in compliance with all applicable state regulations, including standards outlined under Ohio Revised Code Chapter 956 regarding breeder responsibilities and animal welfare.

We maintain required records, care standards, and facility oversight in accordance with state guidelines.

7. Transparency & Integrity

We are honest about:

  • What our dogs are

  • What they are not

  • The realities of owning a guardian breed

We do not exaggerate claims.
We do not misrepresent lineage.
We do not market irresponsibly.

Our reputation is built on clarity, not hype.

8. Commitment to Education

We believe responsible ownership begins with informed ownership.

We encourage:

  • Structured training

  • Early socialization

  • Continued education about guardian breed management

A Cane Corso is a powerful, intelligent working breed requiring leadership and consistency.

We place dogs with individuals prepared to meet that standard.
